Hey guys, I'm making this thread to organize all of the info for the Steam version you'll all be receiving in the near-future.
We just sent out a press key on Sunday. The game isn't together as much as it should be for a press release, but we're past any luxury of waiting, so it went out for the express purpose of demoing the physics engine. The build itself isn't polished enough for a backer release (lot of functionality isn't working due to new code), but its very close and Chase needs to essentially tie up all the loose ends to make it releasable. This is the point where we'd start posting footage and media, but for the sake of not building hype we're keeping it quiet. getting people excited then not delivering is not something I want to make a continued habit of...
What comes next is launching the Steam page so non-backers can wish-list it , and sending out all of your keys (finally). This should be the last thing we have to do before sending out keys.
The build itself should have pretty much everything discussed in the last Kickstarter update. I'd like to promise all of the new content like the other cars and the Aqualuxe track, but Chase has been pretty silent on that. It will have newly polished versions of the previous builds tracks, as well as the decal editor and free-roam online lobby (currently having camera related issues, but its there)
The physics engine received one final overhaul, and It really plays amazingly now. It ended up costing us another month of fixing things due to the changes, but coupled with the new camera, I think you guys will be very happy with how it plays. Most of the complaints of been addressed, and it really feels like a polished version of the original prototypes physics now. The cars ability to turn into and out of a drift is dynamic, as apposed to a fixed value or an even ramp; like in previous versions. This makes everything very smooth and controllable. Collision physics are now much more forgiving, and slight taps and bumps into the wall wont cause to to come to a dead stop.
I've received tons of DMs asking for keys, and as much as I'd like to send more out, we cant afford to have any more in the wild. As mentioned in a previous Kickstarter, all of your keys have been generated and we're just waiting for the game to be ready to send them.
I can't stress how much regret and anxiety I've experienced due to Drift Stages delays, the enthusiasm of the games backers has been the driving force in development since its inception, and letting you guys down genuinely hurts. I hope what we finally deliver plays the way you all hoped it would - It has come at great personal and financial cost to our entire team.
If you currently have a steam key, you'll notice the game updated. This version is only partially playable, but you should be able to test the new physics out in single or multiplayer. I'd appreciate any comments on how they feel, my word doesn't mean much in light of how long its been since a release. If your game wont run or crashes, please email us your log and a bug report.
This is as close to the "home stretch" as we're going to get, and everything will be coming together as soon as its physically possible. I'll start posting gifs and videos as soon as the new HUD and all of the other features are working again (they break after every major revision, this is normal for a new build).
Thanks for sticking with us.
